Lead cast announced for tvN drama “The Tyrant’s Chef”

Lim Yoon-A, Lee Chae-Min, Kang Han-Na, and Choi Gwi-Hwa are cast in tvN drama series “The Tyrant’s Chef” (literal title). The fantasy-romance drama series first cast actor Park Sung-Hoon in the lead male role of King Lee Heon, but he stepped down from his role after being involved in controversy. He uploaded an explicit image of a parody AV video of the Netflix drama series “Squid Game” onto his Instagram account on December 30, 2024. He deleted the image shortly afterwards and apologized, while stating the post was done by mistake. Actor Lee Chae-Min is now cast to play the lead male role of King Lee Heon. Lim Yoon-A will play lead female character Yeon Ji-Young. She is an accomplished chef, but she somehow finds herself transported to the Joseon era and ends up cooking for King Lee Heon.

“The Tyrant’s Chef” will air sometime this year in South Korea.

Trailer 2 and main poster added for Coupang Play drama series “Newtopia” starring Park Jeong-Min and Kim Ji-Soo (Blackpink). The zombie apocalypse themed drama series is directed by Yoon Sung-Hyun (“Bleak Night“) and scripted by Han Jin-Won (“Parasite“) and Ji Ho-Jin (“A Shop for Killers“). First teaser trailer and two teaser posters added for tvN drama series “The Potato Lab” (English title) starring Lee Sun-Bin and Kang Tae-Oh. For actor Kang Tae-Oh, “The Potato Lab” is his first acting role since he finished his mandatory military service on March 19, 2024. Caption on the teaser posters states “This man rolled into my research subject, which was nothing but potatoes.”

“The Potato Lab” will first air March 1, 2025 in South Korea (takes over tvN’s Saturday and Sunday 9:20 PM time slot after “When the Stars Gossip“).

Jang Ki-Yong & Ahn Eun-Jin are cast in SBS drama series “She Shouldn’t Have Kissed” (literal title). Story for “She Shouldn’t Have Kissed” revolves around a kiss that took place between employees at a baby products company. Jang Ki-Yong will play Kong Ji-Hyeok. He is the the team leader for a division at the baby products company. Working on his team is Ko Da-Rim played by Ahn Eun-Jin. She is a contract employee and got hired by lying that she is married and having a child. She then kisses Kong Ji-Hyeok.

“She Shouldn’t Have Kissed” will air sometime this year in South Korea.

First teaser trailer added for MBC drama series “Undercover High School” starring Seo Kang-Joon and Jin Ki-Joo. Drama series “Undercover High School” follows demoted NIS agent Jung Hae-Seong (Seo Kang-Joon) as he begins an undercover operation at a high school. The teaser trailer begins with an anonymous voice asking “Can you take responsibility for what you said about doing everything?” and around the 5 second mark Seo Kang Joon responds with “What should I do first?” and the anonymous voice responds at the 7 second mark with “From now on, you will be a high school student.”

Trailer and support cast announced for movie “Dollhouse” starring Masami Nagasawa. The film is written and directed by Shinobu Yaguchi (“Swing Girls“). Cast in supporting roles for the film are Koji Seto, Tetsushi Tanaka, Ken Yasuda, and Jun Fubuki. The movie revolves around a mysterious doll that main character Yoshie (Masami Nagasawa) buys after her young daughter dies. Koji Seto will play Tadahiko. He is married to Yoshie and and works as a nurse at a hospital.

“Dollhouse” will be released June 13, 2025 in Japan.

Shin Hae-Sun & Lee Jun-Hyuk cast in Netflix drama “The Art of Sarah”

Shin Hae-Sun and Lee Jun-Hyuk are cast in Netflix drama series “The Art of Sarah” (working English title). The mystery drama series has Shin Hae-Sun playing title character Sarah Kim. Her name is well known, but she remains a mysterious person and rarely seen. She works as the president of the Asia branch for a luxury brand. Lee Jun-Hyuk will play Mu-Kyeong. He is a detective and investigates a murder case. The drama series will be directed by Kim Jin-Min (“Goodbye Earth“).

Release date for “The Art of Sarah” has not yet been announced.

Yuki Yamada, Sairi Itoh, Shota Sometani, and Atsuro Watabe cast in movie “Bakudan.” The mystery-suspense film is based on 2022 novel “Bakudan” by Katsuhiro Go and directed by Akira Nagai (“After the Rain“). The film will have Yuki Yamada play lead character Ruike. He works for the Metropolitan Police Department. A man is brought to a station and predicts that 3 bomb explosions will occur in Tokyo, one hour apart from each other. He predicts that the first bomb will explode in Akihabara. After a bomb actually explodes in Akihabara, Ruike tries to solve the case. Sairi Itoh, Shota Sometani, and Atsuro Watabe will all play police officers who try help solve the case.

“Bakudan” will be released sometime this year in Japan.
