Haruka Fukuhara & Dori Sakurada are cast for lead roles in new MBS live-action drama series “Coffee & Vanilla.” The drama series is based on manga series “Coffee & Vanilla” by Takara Akegami and directed by Smith. Also cast in supporting roles for the drama series are Mario Kuroba, Yuuki Ogoe, Shogo Hama and Noa Kita. Story for the drama series depicts a romance with the man having a dark past.
“Coffee & Vanilla” first airs July 4, 2019 in Japan.
Teaser trailer added for upcoming Netflix drama series “The Naked Director” starring Takayuki Yamada. The drama series is based on 2016 novel “Zenra Kantoku Muranishi Toru Den” by Nobuhiro Motohashi and is based on the true story of adult film director Toru Muranishi. Masaharu Take (“100 Yen Love“) will direct the drama series.
“The Naked Director” will be available to stream on Netflix from August 8, 2019.
Teaser poster added for SBS drama series “Doctor Detective” starring Park Jin-Hee and Bong Tae-Gyu. Caption on the teaser poster states in Korean “Industrial accident medical investigation drama ‘Doctor Detective’ you have already been poisoned.” Park Jin-Hee and Bong Tae-Gyu play medical doctors who investigates accidents at industrial sites.
“Doctor Detective” is now set to first air July 17, 2019.
Ryoko Yonekura is cast in TV Asahi drama series “Doctor-X” (Season 6). Also returning to play supporting characters in the drama series are Kenichi Endo, Yuki Uchida, Masanobu Katsumura, Kosuke Suzuki, Ittoku Kishibe and Toshiyuki Nishida.
Season 6 of “Doctor X” will first air October, 2019 in Japan (takes over TV Asahi’s Thursday 9PM time slot after “Sign“).
Masaki Suda and Nana Komatsu are cast in romance film “Tapestry” (literal title). The film is motivated by the song “Ito” by folk singer-songwriter Miyuki Nakajima. The track “Ito” was first released October, 1992 on her album “East Asia.” Movie “Tapestry” will be directed by Takahisa Zeze and scripted by Tamio Hayashi. Story for the film will depict an 18 year romance between two people who now are 31 years old.
Filming for “Tapestry” will take place from July, 2019 to September, 2019 and then in the winter. Filming locations in Japan will include Hokkaido, Tokyo and Okinawa, while some scenes will also be filmed in Singapore. “Tapestry” will be released sometime in 20202 in Japan.
Eiko Koike, Ryo and Rei Okamoto are cast in NTV-YTV drama series “I Shared My Husband.” The drama series features an original screenplay by Kosuke Nishi (“Mozu“) and directed by Hiroaki Yuasa & Yusuke Taki. In the drama series, Eiko Koike will play main character Harumi Morishita. She learns that her husband has passed away and that her husband has two other wives played by Ryo and Rei Okamoto.
“I Shared My Husband” first airs July 4, 2019 (takes over NTV-YTV’s Thursday 23:59 time slot after “My Family Goes Viral“).
Ryosuke Yamada (‘Hey! Say! JUMP’) is cast in TV Asahi drama series “Semiotoko.” The drama series features an original screenplay by Yoshikazu Okada (“Be With You“). Tadaaki Horai and Hajime Takezono will direct the drama series. The fantasy-romance drama series will have Ryosuke Yamada playing Semi. Semi is actually a cicada insect, but he turns into a human to live with a woman for 7 days.
“Semiotoko” will first air July, 2019 in Japan (takes over TV Asahi’s Friday 23:15 time slot after “Mr. Housekeeper, Mitazono Season 3“).
Yosuke Sugino is cast in TBS-MBS drama series “Scams.” The drama series is based on 2015 non-fiction novel “Rojin Kui” by Daisuke Suzuki (“Gangoose“) and directed by Yuki Kobayashi (“Kamikaze Cowboy“). In the drama series, Yosuke Sugino will play Seijitsu Kusano. He falls into bad financial position and then is offered a job where he has to withdraw money from the bank accounts of scam victims.
“Scams” first airs June 30, 2019 on MBS and July 2, 2019 on TBS.
Takuya Kimura is cast for the lead role Fuji TV drama special “Kyojo.” The drama special is based on 2011 novel “Kyojo” by Hiroki Nagaoka. Isamu Nakae (“Hundred Million Stars From the Sky“/”Dr. Koto Shinryojo“) directs the drama special and Ryoichi Kimizuka (“Bayside Shakedown“) writes the screenplay adaptation. In “Kyojo,” Takuya Kimura will play Kimichika Kazama. He is a strict instructor at a police acadamey.
“Kyojo” will consist of 2 episodes and air January, 2020 in Japan.
Aya Asahina is cast in TV Asahi drama series “Runway 24.” In the drama series, Aya Asahina will play Momoko Inoue. She tries to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a pilot. Her employer is Peach Airlines, which is a real low cost airline based out of Japan. Also cast in the drama series is Atsuhiro Inukai, Shunya Shiraishi, ko-dai (Sonar Pocket), Erika Denya, Ami Hachiya, Manabu Ino, Tomoharu Hasegawa and Hisahiro Ogura.
“Runway 24” will first air July 6, 2019 in Japan.
