Nana Mori & Natsuki Deguchi cast in Netflix drama “The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House”

Nana Mori & Natsuki Deguchi are cast in Netflix live-action drama series “The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House.” The drama series is based on manga series “Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san” by Aiko Koyama and directed by Hirokazu Koreeda. Also cast in the drama series are Aju Makita, Keiko Matsuzaka, Ai Hashimoto, Mayu Matsuoka, & Takako Tokiwa. The drama series is set at a district in Gion, Kyoto, Japan, where geisha live and work.

“The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House” will stream on Netflix sometime this year.

Trailer & poster for movie “The Blue Skies at Your Feet”

Main trailer and poster added for movie “The Blue Skies at Your Feet” (English title) starring Riko Fukumoto & Genta Matsuda. Movie is based on 2015 novel “Kimi ga Otoshita Aozora” by Eeyo Sakura & directed by Yuki Saito. The movie’s theme song has also been revealed, which is “Shiori” by Mafumafu. That track also appears in the main trailer. Caption on the poster states “The same day repeats, I become to like you more.”

“The Blue Skies at Your Feet” will be released February 18, 2022 in Japan.

Suzu Hirose cast in TV Asahi drama special “Umeko Tsuda”

Suzu Hirose is cast in TV Asahi drama special “Umeko Tsuda.” The drama special will depict the life of women’s education pioneer Umeko Tsuda (1864-1929). Suzu Hirose will play Umeko Tsuda, who went on to establish prestigious Tsuda College in Tokyo. Umeko Tsuda was influential enough that she will appear on the 5,000 yen bill from the year 2024.

“Umeko Tsuda” will air sometime during spring, 2022 in Japan.

Kanata Hosoda cast in TV Asahi drama “What If There Were a High School for Ikemen Only.”

Kanata Hosoda is cast for the lead role in TV Asahi drama series “What If There Were a High School for Ikemen Only.” Also cast in the drama series are Ryubi Miyase, Taiyu Fujiwara, Sakura Endo, Rintaro Mizusawa, Shuichiro Naito & Yoshiki Fujieda. The drama series is set at a high school that has an unusually high proportion of attractive young men. This is due to the school’s desire to win the national high school ikemen (‘good looking men’) contest.

“What If There Were a High School for Ikemen Only” will first air  January 15, 2022 in Japan (takes over TV Asahi’s Saturday 11 PM time slot after “Kotodamasou“).

Arisa Mizuki is cast for the lead role in TV Asahi drama series “Ubai Ai, Koko Kyoshi.” Also cast for supporting roles are Ryohei Otani, Nana Okada, and, Marika Matsumoto. The drama series is directed by Takashi Komatsu and scripted by Osamu Suzuki. The director and screenwriter previously worked together 2020 TV Asahi drama series “Equation To Erase The Teacher” and 2017 TV Asahi drama series “Winter, Grasping Love.”

“Ubai Ai, Koko Kyoshi” will consist of 4 episodes and air from December 27-30, 2021 in Japan.

Eiji Akaso and Keita Machida are cast in live-action film “Cheri Maho The Movie: 30sai made Dotei dato Mahotsukai ni Narerurashii.” The film is based on manga series “30sai made Dotei dato Mahotsukai ni Narerurashii” by You Toyota and is a sequel to 2020 TV Tokyo drama series “30sai made Dotei dato Mahotsukai ni Narerurashii.” Eiji Akaso and Keita Machida will reprise their lead characters Kiyoshi Adachi & Yuichi Kurosawa.

“Cheri Maho The Movie: 30sai made Dotei dato Mahotsukai ni Narerurashii” will be released April 8, 2022 in Japan.

Hidekazu Mashima is cast in TBS-MBS drama series “Izakaya Shinkansen.” Hidekazu Mashima will play main character Susumu Takamiya in the drama series. His character works for an insurance company that has him traveling on short one day trips via the Shinkansen train. When he goes on his trips, he like to pick up meals to go and eat the meals on the train on his way back.

Nobuyuki Suzuki and Atsuhiro Inukai are cast in NTV-YTV drama series “Kei x Yaku.” The drama series is based on “Kei x Yaku: Abunai Aibou” by Yoshie Kaoruhara. For the drama series, Nobuyuki Suzuki will play main character Ichiro Kunishita. He is a police officer who teams up with a yakuza boss played by Atsuhiro Inukai. They pretend to be lovers, while they try to find the truth behind the disappearance of Ichiro Kunishita’s colleague, who is also the older brother of the yakuza boss.

“Kei x Yaku” first airs January 13, 2022.
