Teaser trailer and posters added for Hirokazu Koreeda directed movie “Look Back.” Movie is based on webcomic “Look Back” by Tatsuki Fujimoto (“Chainsaw Man”). The coming of age story revolves around two girls, with different personalities, coming together to pursue their dreams of creating manga. The two lead actress, Natsuki Deguchi and Aju Makita, practiced drawing manga for 4 months prior to filming, which took place in Nikaho city in Akita Prefecture.
“Look Back” will be released September 11, 2026 in Japan.
Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Fujino (Natsuki Deguchi) lives in a snowbound rural town. She is a popular student in her class and confident in her talent to draw manga. Inspired by Kyomoto (Aju Makita), who is in the same grade as Fujino at the same school, Fujino becomes increasingly immersed in creating manga.
Meanwhile Kyomoto also draws comics and she is a huge fan of Fujino’s manga work. But, unlike Fujino, Kyomoto is a hikikomori and has shut herself away from the world. She focuses solely on her art. Brought together by their single-minded passion for manga, Fujino and Kyomoto pursue their dreams together.
