Masahiro Motoki, Masaki Suda, & Yuriko Yoshitaka cast in movie “Kokurojo”

Masahiro Motoki, Masaki Suda, and Yuriko Yoshitaka are cast for lead roles in mystery-period film “Kokurojo.” Movie is based on 2021 novel “Kokurojo” by Honobu Yonezawa, which won the 166th Naoki Prize in 2021. The film also marks director Kiyoshi Kurosawa first foray into a sengoku period set mystery film. Also cast for the movie are Munetaka Aoki, Ryota Miyadate, Tasuku Emoto, and Joe Odagiri. Masahiro Motoki will play Murashige Araki. His castle is surrounded by forces loyal to Nobunaga Oda. A series of mysterious events takes place within the castle at this time. The first teaser trailer and poster has also been added at AsianWiki.

“Kokurojo” will be released sometime later this year in Japan.

Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Murashige Araki (Masahiro Motoki) raises a rebellion against tyrannical Nobunaga Oda and he carries out the strategy of holing up in his castle. His castle is surrounded by Nobunaga Oda’s troops and isolated from the outside. While Murashige Araki restrains his hot-tempered retainers in the castle, he struggles to protect the castle and the people in the castle with emotional support from his wife Chiyoho (Yuriko Yoshitaka). Around this time, a boy inside the castle is murdered. Since then, a series of mysterious incidents takes place, one after the other, inside the castle. The culprit must be someone inside the castle as the castle is sealed to the outside. Murashige Araki tries to solve this mystery with the dangerous, but genius military strategist Kanbee Kuroda (Masaki Suda), who is imprisoned within the castle’s dungeon.
