Kanata Hongo and Kana Osawa are cast in TV Tokyo drama series “Mei no Mei.” The drama series features an original screenplay by Yasuhiro Ogawa and directed by Yasuhiko Shimizu & Ryoma Ouchida. Both of the directors previously worked together in 2020 Fuji TV drama series “Pension: Love Is Pink.” For “Mei no Mei,” Kanata Hongo will play 32 year old Ozu who was born and raised in Tokyo. After his sister and his brother-in-law die in a car accident, he decides to temporarily move in with his niece, played by Kana Osawa, in Fukushima Prefecture.
“Mei no Mei” first airs September 7, 2023 in Japan.
Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Ozu (Kanata Hongo) is a 32 year old single man. He is rationalistic and modernistic in his beliefs. He works and lives in Tokyo, but he is lethargic about everything in his daily life. One day, his older sister and her husband suddenly die in an accident. 12 year old Mei (Kana Osawa) is Ozu’s niece and she was left behind after her parents’ deaths. Ozu decides to take charge of Mei temporarily and live with her during her summer vacation. For that, Ozu moves to Naraha in Fukushima Prefecture and does his job via remote work. Living with his niece, Ozu and Mei’s bond gets deeper. Ozu also meets the local residents and he can feel their warm hearts. Ozu begins to change by being around his niece and the local people.
