Main cast announced for ensemble film “Happy New Year” directed by Kwak Jae-Young (“My Sassy Girl“). The impressive lineup of performers that will play employees and guests at a hotel during New Year’s are Han Ji-Min, Lee Dong-Wook, Kang Ha-Neul, Yoona, Won Jin-A, Seo Kang-Joon, Lee Kwang-Soo, Kim Young-Kwang, Ko Sung-Hee, Lee Jin-Wook, Lee Kyu-Hyung, Jo Joon-Young, Won Ji-An, Lee Hye-Young & Jung Jin-Young.
Filming for “Happy New Year” began April 19, 2021. The movie is planned for release in South Korean theaters and via online streaming platform Tving, but release date has not yet been decided. Movie is distributed CJ Entertainment, who are partial owners in Tving.
Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: A story of the people that work at Hotel Emros around New Year’s and the guest that stay there.
The hotel manager (Han Ji-Min) does her job well, but she is not very confident in her personal life. She has held a crush on her male friend for 15 years, but she has not been able to tell him how she feels. The hotel’s CEO (Lee Dong-Wook) is a young man with an obsession over even numbers. The hotel’s staff includes a young woman (Yoona), new employee (Won Jin-A), who begins work as a room maid and having put aside her dream of becoming a musical actress, and a female door porter (Lee Hye-Young).
The guests includes a young man (Kang Ha-Neul), who came to the hotel to get a job. For 5 years, he prepared for the exam to become a public officer, but failed the exam. Even his girlfriend has left him. A singer-songwriter / radio DJ (Seo Kang-Joon) is quite popular now, but he went through difficult times as an unpopular singer-songwriter. A manager (Lee Kwang-Soo) works for a popular artist. He and the artist went through hard times, but his client has finally found success. Their contract is set to expire soon. A large management company is trying to sign away his client, but the manager is unable to anything about that. A radio DJ (Kim Young-Kwang) and jazz pianist (Ko Sung-Hee) fell in love with each other at first sight. They are now preparing for their wedding, but they face an unexpected situation. A plastic surgeon (Lee Jin-Wook) sits in the hotel lounge every Saturday, waiting for his fateful love. A businessman (Jung Jin-Young), who lives abroad, returns to South Korea to attend his daughter’s wedding. At the hotel, he meets his first love from 40 years ago. She works as the hotel’s door porter. A fortune-teller (Lee Kyu-Hyung) often visits the hotel to meet with his customers. A high school student swimmer (Jo Joon-Young) and a high school student figure skater (Won Jin-A) begin to have feelings for each other.
