Shotaro Mamiya is cast for the lead role in movie “Hakai.” The movie is based on 1906 novel Hakai” by Toson Shimazaki. Also cast for the major supporting character roles are Anna Ishii, Yuma Yamoto, & Hidekazu Mashima. For the movie, Shotaro Mamiya will play Ushimatsu Segawa. He comes from an untouchable caste, but hides that from others. He becomes influenced by Rentarou Inoko (Hidekazu Mashima), who also comes from the same caste and has become a rights activist for them.
“Hakai” will be released July 8, 2022 in Japan.
Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Set in the early 1900’s, Ushimatsu Segawa (Shotaro Mamiya) is from the hisabetsu-buraku (discriminated class). He hides his heritage from others, because his late father strongly instilled in him to hide his background. Ushimatsu Segawa begins to work as a teacher at an elementary school.
His girlfriend is Shiho (Anna Ishii), who is from the shizoku (warrior families). Ushimatsu Segawa is uncomfortable hiding his background from others, including his girlfriend. People at the elementary school where he works begin to have doubts his background. Meanwhile, Ushimatsu Segawa becomes influenced by burakumin rights activist & writer Rentarou Inoko (Hidekazu Mashima), who also comes from the Hisabetsu-buraku. Ushimatsu Segawa is touched by Rentarou Inoko’s words that humans all have the same dignity.
