Manami Higa is cast in NTV drama series “First Cry.” The drama series features an original screenplay by Hideya Hamada (“Themis’ Uncertain Court“). For Manami Higa, “First Cry” marks her first time starring in a prime time drama series on NTV. In “First Cry,” Manami Higa will play OB-GYN Aki Mitsui. She leads a secret team that is formed to help pregnant mothers who have nowhere to go for help.
“First Cry” will first air July, 2026 in Japan.
Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Due to a shortage of obstetricians, hospitals are struggling to accommodate deliveries from high-risk pregnant women. Amidst this situation, a maternal and child emergency team is secretly created by the director of a famous luxury hospital in Tokyo. The team’s mission is to save pregnant women, free of charge, who have nowhere to go. The team is led by OB-GYN Aki Mitsui (Manami Higa). Despite having hearing loss in one ear, she is a highly skilled professional and obsessed with hearing a baby’s first cry more than anything else. She has a bright and cheerful personality and enjoys eating delicious food & alcohol. However, she holds emotional pain related to her own birth.
