Lim Yoon-A, Lee Chae-Min, Kang Han-Na, and Choi Gwi-Hwa are cast in tvN drama series “The Tyrant’s Chef” (literal title). The fantasy-romance drama series first cast actor Park Sung-Hoon in the lead male role of King Lee Heon, but he stepped down from his role after being involved in controversy. He uploaded an explicit image of a parody AV video of the Netflix drama series “Squid Game” onto his Instagram account on December 30, 2024. He deleted the image shortly afterwards and apologized, while stating the post was done by mistake. Actor Lee Chae-Min is now cast to play the lead male role of King Lee Heon. Lim Yoon-A will play lead female character Yeon Ji-Young. She is an accomplished chef, but she somehow finds herself transported to the Joseon era and ends up cooking for King Lee Heon.
“The Tyrant’s Chef” will air sometime this year in South Korea.
Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Yeon Ji-Young (Lim Yoon-A) is a French chef with a cheerful and determined personality. One day, she wins a French cooking competition, but she somehow finds herself transported to the Joseon era. She happens to serve her food to King Lee Heon (Lee Chae-Min) of Joseon. He is the worst tyrant who wields absolute power. He does have extraordinary sense of taste. He is able to taste differences of food when even the weather changes. He happens to try Yeon Ji-Young’s food and likes what she made. He decides to take her to the royal palace and have her cook for him. Yeon Ji-Young, who was offered work at a Michelin 3-star rated restaurant in Paris, finds herself working for the tyrant King Lee Heon and presents fusion royal cuisine just for him.
Meanwhile, Kang Mok-Ju (Kang Han-Na) is King Lee Heon’s concubine. She is greedy and hides her endless ambition for power. Prince Jesan (Choi Gwi-Hwa) is a member of royal family. He is the most powerful political enemy of King Lee Heon.
