Suzu Hirose and Hiroki Narimiya cast in NTV drama series “The Mysterious Thief Yamaneko”

Suzu Hirose and Hiroki Narimiya cast in NTV drama series “The Mysterious Thief Yamaneko” starring Kazuya Kamenashi. Also cast in the drama series are Kuranosuke Sasaki, Nanao, Nene Otsuka and Yukiya Kitamura.

In drama series “The Mysterious Thief Yamaneko,” Suzu Hirose will play Mao Takasugi. Her character is a female high school student and a genius computer hacker. She uses her l33t hacking skills to help her father with evil deeds. Hiroki Narimiya will play Hideo Katsumura. His character is a magazine reporter. He experiences the typical life of a reporter, but, one day, Yamaneko (Kazuya Kamenashi) appears in front of him and tells him to “write my story.” Hideo Katsumura then acts with Yamaneko.

“The Mysterious Thief Yamaneko” first airs January 16, 2016 in Japan.

Kazutoyo Koyabu & Nana Katase are cast in NTV-YTV drama series “The Angel of Money” (“Money no Tenshi”)

Kazutoyo Koyabu and Nana Katase are cast in new NTV-YTV drama series “The Angel of Money” (literal title of “Money no Tenshi”). Also cast in the drama series are Naoto Takenaka, Wakana Aoi, Fuuko Yagura (idol group ‘NMB48′) & Miria Fujita (idol group ‘Fairies’).

Premise for “The Angel of Money” has Nana Katase playing a manager of a Mexican restaurant in Osaka. She is also studying to become a lawyer. Her character went through a difficult financial period in her past and she wants to help others get through similar situations. She then decides to open a small financial counseling booth in the Mexican restaurant. Her first customer is Shigeru Takeuchi (Kazutoyo Koyabu). His character helps her with the financial counseling. Meanwhile, Naoto Takenaka will play an attorney that is hostile to Risa Kurihara (Nana Katase) and Shigeru Takeuchi (Kazutoyo Koyabu). Wakana Aoi, Fuuko Yagura  and Miria Fujita will play high school students who are part-time workers at the Mexican restaurant. They also help Risa Kurihara (Nana Katase).

Natsuna Watanabe and Masato Wada cast in TV Asahi drama series “Specialist”

Natsuna Watanabe and Masato Wada are cast to play new characters in upcoming TV Asahi drama series “Specialist” starring SMAP’s Tsuyoshi Kusanagi. The drama series “Specialist” follows 4 previous 1 episode drama specials of the “Specialist,” the latest of which, “Specialist 4,” airs December 12, 2015 in Japan. Also cast in the drama series “Specialist” include regular cast members from the drama specials Kaho Minami, Sei Ashina & Yuta Hiraoka.

For drama series “Specialist,” Natsuna Watanabe will play detective Maria Azuma. Meanwhile, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi’s character Yoshito Takuma gets transferred from Kyoto to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He gets assigned to a department there that doesn’t even have a name and works with Maria Azuma.

Drama series “Specialist” will first air sometime in January, 2016 in Japan.

Hiroshi Abe & Yuki Amami cast in movie “Koisaika Miyamoto”

Hiroshi Abe & Yuki Amami are cast in new movie “Koisaika Miyamoto.” The film is based on 2013 novel “Famiresu” by Kiyoshi Shigematsu (“The Blue Bird“/”Tombi“) and directed by Kazuhiko Yukawa. This is the first film directed by Kazuhiko Yukawa who has previously written screenplays for such popular drama series as NTV’s “I’m Mita, Your Housekeeper” and “Queen of the Classroom.”

Story for “Koisaika Miyamoto” has a husband (Hiroshi Abe) and wife (Yuki Amami) living alone as a couple for the first time in 25 years after their son moves out of their home. The husband, who works as a middle school teacher, finds divorce papers by his wife, but he doesn’t have the courage to confront her about the papers. A cooking class though inspires him about an ideal family and he takes new steps with his wife.

“Koisaika Miyamoto” will be released sometime in 2017 in Japan.

Kenichi Endo & Atsuro Watabe cast in Fuji TV-KTV drama series “Otosan to Yobasete”

Actors Kenichi Endo & Atsuro Watabe are cast in upcoming Fuji TV/KTV drama series “Otosan to Yobasete” (literally “Let Me Call You Father-in-Law”). In the drama series, both Kenich Endo and Atsuro Watabe play 51-years-old men. Kenichi Endo has been so absorbed with his work at a medium sized trading company that he has never had a chance to marry. He then meets a woman 23-years-old and hopes to marry her. Meanwhile, Atsuro Watabe plays a man that is proud of his family. He has a wife and 3 children. He’s also an executive at leading trading company. His 23-years-old daughter brings home the character played by Kenichi Endo as a perspective husband.

“Otosan to Yobasete” will first air January, 2016 in Japan.

Akari Hayami cast in Fuji TV drama special “Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles SP”

Akari Hayami is cast in Fuji TV live-action drama special “Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles SP.” Also cast for the drama special are Karen Miyama, Seika Furuhata, Ryo Narita & Mirei Tanaka (idol group ‘Super Girls’). Ryo Narita and Mirei Tanaka play new characters not found in the 2015 Fuji TV drama series “Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles.” The drama special is based on manga series”Ramen Daisuki Koizumi san” by Naru Narumi.

For the drama special, Akari Hayami’s Koizumi character and Ryo Narita’s Mitsukuni Naruto character have a battle over their love for ramen. “Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles SP” airs January 4, 2016 in Japan.

Kiichi Nakai, Yusuke Santamaria and Pierre Taki cast in WOWOW drama series “Kinpika”

Kiichi Nakai, Yusuke Santamaria and Pierre Taki are cast in upcoming 5 episode WOWOW drama series “Kinpika.” The drama series is based on novel “Kinpika” by popular author Jiro Asada. Some of Jiro Asada’s novels that have been adapted into movies include “Failan,” “When the Last Sword is Drawn,” and “Chateau de le Reine.”

Premise for drama series “Kinpika” has Kiichi Nakai playing a former yakuza member who spent 13 years in jail, Yusuke Santamaria a former secretary of a politician who became the fall guy for the politician and Pierre Taki a former self-defense official. They gather together under a retired detective (Katsuhiko Watabiki) to take revenge on those that betrayed them.

“Kinpika” first airs February 13, 2016 in Japan.

Fuji TV to air omnibus drama special “Josei Sakka Mysteries Utsukushiki Mitsu no Uso”

Fuji TV is set to air omnibus drama special “Josei Sakka Mysteries Utsukushiki Mitsu no Uso.” The drama special consists of 3 episodes which are based on stories by popular authors Kanae Minato (“Confessions“), Shion Miura (“The Great Passage“) & Mitsuyo Kakuta (“Rebirth“). Each of these author’s past original works (“Confessions,” “The Great Passage,” and “Rebirth”) are recipients of the “Picture of the Year” and “Best Screenplay” awards at the Japan Academy Prize (Japan’s equivalent to the Academy Awards in the U.S.). The segments will be directed by Yoshihiro Fukagawa (“In His Chart“), Ryuichi Hiroki (“Vibrator“) & Takahisa Zeze (“Heaven’s Story“).

Chiaki Kuriyama cast in TV Tokyo drama “Nobunaga Moyu”

Chiaki Kuriyama is cast in upcoming TV Tokyo historical drama series “Nobunaga Moyu” starring Noriyuki Higashiyama. The drama series is based on 2001 novel “Nobunaga Moyu” by Ryutaro Abe and revolves around powerful samurai Nobunaga Oda and his ambitions to unify Japan. In the drama series, Chiaki Kuriyama  will play Haruko Kajuji. Her character turns to Nobunaga Oda to protect the Imperial Court, but she falls in love with him in the process.

Haruka Ayase, Haruma Miura and Asami Mizukawa are cast in TBS drama “Never Let Me Go”

Haruka Ayase, Haruma Miura and Asami Mizukawa are cast in upcoming romance/sci-fi TBS drama series “Never Let Me Go.” The drama series is based on novel “Never Let Me Go” by British-Japanese author Kazuo Ishiguro, The novel was previously adapted into 2010 U.S. film “Never Let Me Go” directed by Mark Romanek.

Story for drama series “Never Let Me Go” deals with three people (played by Haruka Ayase, Haruma Miura and Asami Mizukawa) who attended the same isolated boarding school years ago. The three are actual clones and they were produced for eventual organ harvesting.
